Sarah

Don’t you just love Margaret and Helen?  Those gals just get Sarah Palin:

She stirred up crowds across the country to the point that McCain campaign stops frequently resembled a lynch mob.  She mixes religion and politics like I mix gin and tonic but then calls for less government involvement.

likely to turn serious any moment

I ask you … how crazy is this PUMAsphere battle about Sarah gonna get, anyway?  It’s just too wierd, I tell ya.  Imagine a school yard.  A fight breaks out. Everyone runs to the baseball diamond to find … what … a single person standing in the middle of the circle, and everyone is yelling Go Sarah Go?

And that Cinie!  She’s out rousing the rabble as usual, and what can whip us up more than a scary story about creepy wierd what you see ain’t what you get groups?  Better yet, Cinie gives us a twofer:

Contrary to the image that the term “anti-feminist” might conjure up in some minds, the truth is, in just about all ways, “anti-feminists” look, sound, and act just like regular feminists – to a point.  Just like Satanists often hold services much like Christian ones, and, the Anti-Christ would probably come across as very Christ-like until the message he was preaching turned from comforting and inspiring to creepy and weird, so too do anti-feminists appear to be regular-old, garden variety feminists.  And they are, until the message they’re preaching gets creepy and weird.

But then Cinie tosses us dweebs a few clues, to go a huntin’ ourselves for the once & future plans of Ms Sarah. Like when she mentions SarahPAC. Okay, now there’s something I can work with.  I wanna place my bet, but only after knowing how strong my horse is and who her owners are.

Another PAC is Team Sarah PAC, also out of Arlington VA.  It’s FEC Statement of Organization has further clues – it’s affiliated with the Susan B Anthony List Candidate Fund.  Indeed, the document was faxed from an SBA-List fax machine, and they share the same office space in Arlington.  I’m thinking that maybe there’s not a whole lot of separation there? Just guessing though.

As Cinie pointed out, the goal of the SBA-List is to end abortion in this country. Okay, I can see how that’d cause a dust up of confusion when you throw around big time feminist names like Susan B Anthony. Whoa, talk about what you see ain’t what you get.  The Sarah PAC website says it’s all about

Health care, education, and reform of government  … energy independence … conservative principles

Nothing about freedom of choice, or lack thereof. And the list of  Sarah PAC objectives is like a restaurant menu that’s glued shut – no details, just a picture of the table.  I checked inside. Not much there, really. Weird.

You know what I thought was weird also? Why is someone named John Coale the organizer of Sarah PAC?  I mean, I see all these women’s names associated with Sarah PAC – names like Tammy Bruce on the Sarah PAC website, and Emily Buchanan and Melissa Graeff on the FEC forms, and Susan B Anthony for goodness’ sake.  Not to mention Sarah Palin. Yeah!  A women run organization!

So who is John Coale?  Well, he’s the organizer of Sarah PAC. (as well as the husband of Greta Van Susteren).  And he was a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Sarah PAC

Silly me – I assumed fundraisers are people who are well-connected supporters sharing the same values as their candidate.  Well, maybe the values are shared – - values of career and access, not ideological values.  How else do you explain that the same person who raised funds for Hillary is now organizing Sarah’s reincarnation?  How else do you explain that Susan B Anthony is about getting women on the same page to roll back freedom of choice?

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, you better check to be sure it’s not faux duck.

Just an FYI – SarahPAC and Team Sarah are listed at two separate unaffiliated committees on the FEC website. Team Sarah has also been “termninated” meaning that this committee no longer exists or raises federal funds. SarahPAC’s first report of financial activity should be posted on or around July 31.

    • Publius Says:

I meant “terminated.” Sorry for the typo.

      • lightpondblogger Says:

        Thanks for that, Publius.

I did notice that the organizations were terminated, which made me curious. I was even more curious to learn that the funds were reported as zero, and the PAC had such a very brief life.

And yet, the latest item on SaraPAC news is dated July 5. So the PAC may be closed but the activity (at least on the website) continues.

I also visited the Team Sarah website. I didn’t get anywhere at all with that, since most everything on it is locked up and one must be a “member” to enter. And to be a member, one must be vetted, it seems.

PalinPAC.org has announced that she’s raised over $700k in recent days. However, the CNN article refers to SarahPAC not PalinPAC.

John Coale’s motives have been suspect since he was one of the first Clinton associates to publicly endorse McCain/Palin. In March, Chris Cillizzaa did an article on Palin’s “branders” and he was first on the list. An interesting association from that article is Sarah Pac’s Becki Donatelli and the Donatelli Group. Follow his links for Campaign Solutions, look ‘em up on Source Watch, do a search on ‘em, and see what you think.

Thank you Cinie for the suggestion to look at Campaign Solutions and Becki Donatelli’s businesses via Source Watch.

Now, that’s what I call a true believer. The Source Watch list is a veritable Who’s Who of conservative causes. The list is so long I could create a whole section on the blogroll just for Becki’s List.

MK, a little more to chew on re: Coale/Sarah Pac. Sorry for the length, but thought you might find it interesting.

John Coale, a Washington trial lawyer and a Democrat who befriended the governor, said that during a political trip to Atlanta in December she expressed concern about her personal finances and complained that whenever she left Alaska “there was tremendous criticism up there.”

To Mr. Coale, the Palins seemed unprepared for the national stage. “I don’t think they got it, that they were in the arena,” he added. Mr. Coale helped Ms. Palin set up a legal defense fund and a political action committee to pay for her political activities. But both caused additional problems.

While the defense fund has raised more than $250,000, according to its trustee, the money cannot be spent pending resolution of an ethics complaint that contends that the contributions could amount to improper gifts.

The political action committee, named SarahPAC, was intended to help Ms. Palin steer clear of state ethics laws prohibiting the mixing of official duties and political activities. But according to people who dealt with it, a disconnect emerged between Ms. Palin’s political and official operations, resulting in embarrassing blunders.

It seems that John Coale’s party identification (and his prior relationship to HRC 2008) are really nothing more than business relationships. Or so it seems to me. When I look at his campaign contributions on the FEC website, I do indeed see plenty of money given to Dems. But there are also contributions to Orrin Hatch, Newt Gingrich ….

I know that campaign contributions aren’t considered donations for the purposes of personal tax filings. I just wonder if they count as business expenses?

MK, I did a lot of research last night and think I have a handle on the players. Coale is said to be motivated primarily by his Scientology beliefs. He’s way high in the levels however they rank them, and has been accused of trying to inject Scientologists into politics on a grand scale. He’s also the one who suggested publicly that Palin help pay off Hillary’s campaign debt and form an alliance, without clearing it with anybody. Neither camp was remotely amenable. Supposedly, he was only marginally associated with Palin anyway, inserting himself as an unpaid, volunteer consultant.
Palin’s various support groups are not in communication with each other, which leads to missteps galore, like the mixup with her appearance at that big Republican shindig, and she doesn’t seem to be riding herd on any of them. That lack of control lead to Donatelli being fired, or quitting, whoever you believe.
Only Sarah PAC and Alaska Fund Trust are officially associated with her. Team Sarah is not, but they claim she tacitly supports their efforts.

    • lightpondblogger Says:

I would like to hear more about Coale bringing Scientology into politics.

Yes, SarahPAC.com say it is “the official Sarah Palin PAC”. But it also says it’s “not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee”. However, it’s FEC filing today shows that it’s the PAC getting the funds.

  5. Cinie Says:

Oh, one more thing, it’s Team Sarah that is tied to the Susan B. Anthony List, co-founded by SBA-List president and Chairman of the Board, Marjorie Dannenfelser.
